Once again, it’s time to reserve a space at the SteinerBooks Spiritual Research Seminar. Those who attended
last year’s Spiritual Research Seminar will recall that it provided real inspiration and an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. In addition to the insights imparted by the presenters at the seminars and a sense of fellowship with like-minded people, those who attend gain an opportunity to share their own insights and questions with the speakers and other participants, all of whom are seeking a deeper connection with spirit and a stronger commitment to inner development.
The
5th annual SteinerBooks Spiritual Research Seminar takes up the field of healing. No human task is perhaps more fundamental, and none today is perhaps more necessary. Wherever we look—whether into the human soul and body or at human communities (local, national, or global) or at our Earth, which seems under attack but has a life and consciousness of its own—we seem to be called to “take up our bed and walk.” “Human Being, heal yourself; work for the healing of the Earth!” seems to be what the Delphic Oracle is saying to us today.
In this seminar, therefore, we will approach healing from several perspectives—we will learn from the herbs and plants, from the energies and beings awakening in the Earth, from the wisdom of Anthroposophy in its understanding of body and soul, and from the Christian Gospel’s teaching of community, hospitality, and a deeper level of care for one another.
PRESENTERS:
Deb Soule is the founder of Avena Botanicals, an herbal apothecary that specializes in organically grown remedies. A gardener and wildcrafter, she tends an acre of medicinal herbs and has served her local, rural community in Maine as an herbalist for many years, along with teaching and consulting with women and health care providers around the country. Deb will share herbal wisdom gained in her practice as an herbalist and in her biodynamic herb garden. She is the author of

Marko Pogacnik is a Slovenian artist, geomancer, teacher, litho-puncturist, and “landscape healer.” He believes that we must begin to work consciously and selflessly with the beings and energies immanent in the Earth sphere. Responding to what he understands as the profound Earth changes taking place today, he has developed a practical heart-based path of inner perception adequate to the Earth’s multidimensional consciousness. He is author of many books, most recently
Sacred Geography: Geomancy—Co-creating the Earth Cosmos (Lindisfarne Books, 2007).
Dan McKanan Ph.D., is associate professor of religion and chair of the Theology Department at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University. Educated at Harvard, Vanderbilt, and the University of Chicago, Dan has dedicated his professional and personal life to recovering peace, justice, and community at the heart of Christian life and theology. He is especially interested in the contribution of the esoteric Christian stream, including Anthroposophy, to these issues. His most recent book is
Touching the World: Christian Communities Transforming Societies, a study of The Catholic Worker Movement and the Camphill Movement from this point of view.
Gerald Karnow, M.D., is a family practice physician, practicing anthroposophically extended medicine. Since 1984, he has been a coworker and doctor at the Fellowship Community in Spring Valley, New York, directing the Mercury Press. A deep anthroposophist, with much practical experience, he knows a great deal about the anthroposophic approach to healing and medicine.
