Dear Parents, Teachers, and Children!

Welcome to our new SteinerBooks Education Catalog. Despite the economic crisis and the recession, we have been able to gather a fabulous collection of books to share with you. We hope there is something here for everyone!

The catalog begins with the wonderful picture book Namaste! by award-winning author Diana Cohn and award-winning illustrator Amy Córdova—an inspiring story of a little Tibetan girl, Nima, who learns to practice greeting the divine in all the beings she meets. Surely a lesson all of us could learn.

We have published two new books from different perspectives on transforming teaching, Transformational Teaching by Dr. Mary Goral and Transforming History by Dr. William Irwin Thompson, both important works as the debate about education continues. These more general books are complemented by new books from our distributed list that provide a wealth of insights on particular issues for understanding ourselves and our children from a Waldorf point of view, such as Dyslexia: Learning Disorder or Creative Gift?; Awakening to Child Health; The Child with Special Needs; The Toddler Years, and A Child’s Way. The new release of a lost gem of a book, How Like an Angel Came I Down, contains insightful, enlightening conversations about spirituality between visionary teacher Bronson Alcott—friend to Emerson and Thoreau in Concord—and the young children who were his students.

We are also featuring, as usual, books on different aspects of personal development, such as A Woman’s Path; The Menopause; Homemaking and Personal Development; and The Fourfold Path to Healing, as well as books that inspire healthy cooking—and eating—such as The Waldorf Book of Breads; Cooking for the Love of the World; and The Demeter CookBook. (All of the books mentioned here may be found in our "New Books" pages on this website.)

New books by your favorite children’s authors include the first editions in English of Emily and Daisy and The Curious Fish by Elsa Beskow; Merlina and the Magic Spell by Daniela Drescher (Be sure not to miss the new Advent Calendar based on this delightful book!); Florina and the Wild Bird Seed, illustrated by the phenomenal Swiss artist of A Bell for Ursli; and The Story of the Butterfly Children by Sibylle von Olfers, author of the perennial favorite The Story of the Root Children. In addition to these, Findus and the Fox and When Findus Was Little and Disappeared are two new adventures in the riotously funny series by Sven Nordqvist of Findus the Cat and Farmer Pettson, which comes highly recommended by Philip Pullman of His Dark Materials series. Two classic story books are finally available: The Eight-Year-Old Legend Book and Homer’s Odyssey by Isabel Wyatt, the author of the well-loved Seven-Year-Old Wonder Book. We have also brought back into print the exciting alphabet adventure story of The Wise Enchanter by Shelley Davidow and Krystyna Kurzyca and Spirit of the Mountain. We are very happy to make available for you an epic new myth, the Auragole Quartet by Shirley Latessa, an outstanding actress and poet. We are sure that this quartet will become a classic for young adults.

There are also outdoor activity books for families: Under the Sky and Green Fingers and Muddy Boots, as well as the joyful new Christmas offerings On Christmas Eve by Else Wenz-Vietor and The Little Christmas Tree by Loek Koopmans. Also, this year in the Christmas category we are sure many of you will be delighted that once again we are offering beautiful Advent Calendars from Germany to accompany you through the weeks of Advent.

The informative articles once again cover a broad range of topics: "Goodness, Beauty, and Truth: Waldorf Education" by Winslow Eliot; an interview with Namaste! author Diana Cohn and illustrator Amy Córdova; "A Wetfelting Craft Project for Parents and Children" by Pardis Amirshahi, the publisher of Living Crafts magazine; "Seeing the Twelve Grades through the Lens of the Twelve Senses" by Catherine Read; and, finally, a timely excerpt by Dr. Philip Incao from The Vaccination Dilemma.

We hope our catalog brings some light and excitement into your household and family! May the Autumn Season bring you blessings and joy,

All best wishes,
Gene Gollogly
